UAZ "Cargo" - a modern alternative to the outdated model 3303
After the successful start of sales of the serial “Patriot”, the management of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant decides on the development of new variants of serial light trucks for commercial and isothermal use. One of these new concepts was called UAZ "Cargo".
The evolution of the "tadpole"
Back in the days of the serial production of Simbir, the leadership of the automobile plant tried to replace the good old tadpole. But the attempt was unsuccessful. Most of the consumers of Ulyanovsk cars live, as before, outside the Moscow ring. And when buying domestic low-tonnage machines, it pushes off primarily from the cost of the car.
Thus, it turned out that the cargo Simbir, which cost 50% more expensive than 3303, and in terms of carrying capacity was 25% less than its prototype, was not popular among the population.In addition, the development of a new, more advanced model, the Patriot, was approaching completion.
According to the manufacturer, the car had to change the really outdated UAZ 3303. The design of the new model was based on the symmetric mixing of the old, time-tested "tadpole" and "Patriot". Thus, the cab, engine and chassis were taken from the new car, and the cargo hold from the old model. UAZ "Cargo" has become a kind of hybrid of these models.
UAZ "Cargo" (UAZ-23602-130) begins its history of mass production since 2008. It compares favorably with all of its predecessors by its increased carrying capacity of 800 kg. The appearance of the body and the interior of the cabin all its appearance reminiscent of their direct relationship to the class of off-road SUV.
The small-sized off-road truck was supposed to be produced with two types of engines:
- petrol ZMZ 409-10 with a volume of 2.7 liters and a capacity of 128 horses;

Compared to their prototypes
From the "Patriot" and the model 3303 UAZ "Cargo", the technical characteristics of which are close to competitive, is not much different. Among the differences are the following:
- The wheelbase was increased to 3 m.
- some elements (bumpers, exterior mirrors, wheel linings) were not painted in the same color as the body.
- The increase in load capacity, which occurred through the use of the frame "Patriot" with an increased wheelbase.
- Rear signal lights installed similarly 3303, but it does not spoil the appearance of the car.
Thanks to such modifications inherent in the UAZ "Cargo",The SUV turned out to be not so expensive, but it compares favorably with its predecessor both in technical characteristics and appearance, as well as in the comfort of movement.

Due to its unique passability, the UAZ “Cargo”, the price of which starts from 700,000 rubles, is in demand in the CIS countries. Despite the fact that due to the crisis in 2007, the conveyor production of the model was suspended, in 2011 it resumed.
After 3 years, the pickup was slightly upgraded, receiving an update of the cab, a change for the better driver and passenger comfort, as well as an imported transfer case. According to unofficial rumors, the automobile plant is preparing to release a new restyled car, the Cargo 2, and this should happen in 2016.
