  • 1A - with this marking, the fire extinguisher is used for the fire of wooden blocks, the volume of which is 1/8 m³;

  • 2A - volume of 1/4 m3;

  • 4A - 1/2 m3.

Marking with the letter "B" means the volume of gasoline that can be extinguished with one fire extinguisher:

  • 10B - means that the volume of the powder of the fire extinguisher is enough to extinguish 10 liters of gasoline, the layer of which is up to 3 cm;

  • 13B - 13 liters;

  • 34B - 34 liters and so on.

The main features of fire extinguishers of this type are the following factors:

- there is no cooling effect, which often leads to a re-ignition;

- the powder strongly pollutes the area of ​​the fire, therefore such extinguishers are not used in extinguishing electronic equipment and electric machines of the collector type;

- excessive dust is formed, therefore visibility is significantly reduced if extinguishing occurs in a small room. This complicates the process of neutralizing the source of ignition;

- the need to strictly follow the recommendationsfactory of the manufacturer by the method of storage, because due to its dispersion, powder types of fire extinguishers with long storage are prone to caking and, consequently, loss of fire-extinguishing ability.

Thus, fire extinguishers with a powder charge must be constantly checked for the operability of the mechanisms. At the same time, the old ones are periodically replaced with new ones.
