Permogorsk painting - a cultural and historical phenomenon!

The history of this painting originates in the Arkhangelsk region, or rather comes from Permogorye, a group of villages in the Krasnoborsky district. The historical center of Permogorsky handicraft recognized a group of villages under the unusual name of Mokraya Edom. Famous masters glorified the Permogorsk painting for the whole world - the dynasty of the Yarygin, Khripunov and Tail - recognized masters in their work.

It should be noted that the main colors used in this needlework technique are red, as well as green and yellow. Sometimes masters use a cobalt shade, as well as some gold. At the same time, in earlier works the Permogorsk painting included ornaments made with yellow ocher, rich maroon and somewhat muted green.

The main elements of permogorsk painting

Suffice it to say that these ornaments were present quite often in the interior of many peasants - with such techniques of woodwork they covered spinning wheels and baby cots, bread boxes and tueski,Endovy and much more. Often, the Permogorsk patterns correspond to the very subject of painting - they showed lunch on bread boxes, large fish or poultry on dishes, the Sirin bird was often depicted on babies' cradles, and on the boxes - a married couple or unicorns, hunters and weavers. The free field was filled with an ornament of leaves and geometric motifs.

Often Permogorsk wood painting was also accompanied by the corresponding texts and wishes. So, for example, on the cradle of a baby is an inscription about longevity and health, please grow up to the joy of friends and relatives and be proud and supportive of your own parents. But on the bowl one could see such a signature: on the one hand - “Carry”, on the other - “Do not weave”, and many others are kind and often with a hint of humor and phrases.

It should be noted that the trefoil, flowers and berries are the main components of the ornaments and patterns of the Permogorsk painting. On a wavy line, many masters applied all these elements in an arbitrary sequence, filling the empty places with a separate flower or berry. Somewhat less frequently, the Permogorsk painting depicted a person or a bird, a domestic animal, and the plant element was still preferred.

The main points of permogorsk painting

Many masters had favorite elements in their arsenal. So, the Permogorsk painting of some was full of the symbol of well-being - a tree consisting of two branches, growing from the ground and decorated with trefoils. On the branches of the tree of happiness, masters often “planted” wonderful dogs. I would like to note with special attention such a symbol of happiness in the ornament, like the bird Sirin. It often contains Permogorsk painting. The bird Sirin was an image in a belt and was formed in the form of a geometric ornament - as a result a kind of medallion was obtained. Initially, the Sirin pattern itself was a symbol of dark forces, and in the Permogorsk painting the Gamayun bird was opposed to it in the Permogorsk painting as a good beginning in the world.

Along with floral ornaments, scenes from everyday life were quite popular. So, on the spinning wheels one could meet weavers or spinners at work, a carriage with a pair of horses and a merchant, scenes of tea drinking. At the same time, a cat was depicted on household items - a symbolic image of family coziness and somewhere even a brownie.

As a rule, the ornament itself was formed on the subject of everyday life in several levels. So, at the first level of the ornament, we had girls - weavers or spinners sitting under the window, and, as a rule, they were painted in yellow and green colors and, most importantly, in a checkerboard pattern. Then they arranged scenes of family tea-drinking and riding horses, and the uppermost tier completed the image of a roof crowned with a bird Sirin or a lion, sometimes a griffin, somewhat less often a unicorn. If the subject of daily use was painted in two levels, the situation in life was located at the bottom, the upper level was occupied by the bird Sirin itself.
