Diploma protection: how to prepare for "excellent"
Each of us has at least once in our lifeto defend the diploma. This event brings a lot of stress and sleepless nights into our lives. How to prepare for someone who has a defense of a diploma on his nose? What do you need to impress the audience, and especially - on the commission? Let's understand.
In this article I want to consider two main aspects of this topic. The first relates directly to the thesis work, and the second relates precisely to the speech before people.
So, you have your work in hand. You wrote it yourself, did not you? It is better if the answer is positive. I believe that it is impossible to call such an occupation a study where abstracts, exams, coursework and even diploma works are ordered and bought. This is not study. But we are distracted. So, you wrote a job and you know it almost by heart. There remains the defense of the diploma. As we know, this process takes about ten minutes, and at this time hardly one standard sheet of printed text will fit. You need to squeeze. You know what the work says, what research was conducted, what conclusions were drawn. This is what you need to tell. First, we should declare the relevance of the chosen topic, then tell us about the work done and the methods used. But the main part of your report is a practical part and conclusions. Here it is worthwhile to dwell in more detail on several issues that require the protection of a diploma. The presentation will be just the way.
It's good when there is also a handout. Then all members of the commission will be able to have all the figures immediately before their eyes, it will be easier for them to grasp the object and essence of the speaker's words. If the speaker starts to notice that he has too much time left, he should just comment on the slides of the presentation for a little longer, supplementing his conclusions with some generalizing phrases.
But what to do to the one whose future defense of the diploma provokes genuine horror because of fear of speaking before the audience? Here, experienced psychologists advise the following:
- prepare for the performance in advance, carefully allrehearse right up to possible questions; if you are to defend the diploma in English, then how to "pull" this language to a more or less decent conversational level;
- you need to be able to do without papers with the text: all information should be in the head of the speaker; and it is desirable that it there was in a systematized form, that is, an "honed" plan of the report is needed;
- to reduce the impact on your bodyadrenaline, which it rages during stress, you need to unnoticeably restrain any muscles, for example, on the back or legs, to keep the posture;
- complacency is an excellent solution, but not always effective: here experts advise to talk to themselves and convince in the end that there is nothing to be afraid and everything is fine.
Bonus advice is practice. For one presentation (whether it's defending a diploma or presenting a project, speaking at a parent's meeting or toasting at a wedding table), it's impossible to become a good speaker. Try to "talk with the audience" more often - and she will gradually teach you how to behave yourself.
